The only time it's good to sit next to a stinky guy on the bus...

... is when you and the toddler in your lap are both covered in a hastily-wiped-off varnish of vomit,* and you're trying to get home quickly without calling too much attention to yourself.

*Hers, not mine. The jury's still out on whether it was motion sickness or sick sickness.

No squirrels, at least

I haven't had much to say, or much time to say it in, lately. Things are changing - we've applied for an apartment, Dutch lost yet another tooth and read a whole book with only 4 helping hints, Skipper pooped in the potty and threw a toy in the toilet, my tomatoes are infested with some sort of fly... life goes on. I still have no job. I've caught on belatedly to an author and an internet phenomenon (what? I'm SLOW, okay?), both of which I'm enjoying.

Today I taught Skipper to say "Bye-bye, booger." I think this is my greatest parenting accomplishment so date. So to you I say "Bahbah, boohghah."

For want of a nail.

Holy crapola - things are crazy here. Skipper and Dutch have colds, and Skipper is sliming everything in that special unique way of snotty babies everywhere. We've finally started packing (because hey, we're moving IN A WEEK!!), and we keep having cascades of minor problems. Here is an example:

We need to sell our bed. It won't fit in our new home. In order to sell the bed, we needed to take a picture of it to post on Craigslist. The camera lens is broken, so we needed to find the other lens, which hadn't been seen in over a year. We finally found it, but it's not going to work (it's a zoom lens, and we can't get far enough away from the bed unless we climb the tree outside the window). So we're going to make a video of it instead. I just wish someone would be our spokesmodel, like maybe this guy.

Anyway, things are crazy. I have tons of homework, and tons of packing, and Skipper's snotty nose made her want to nurse all night, so I'm exhausted. I shouldn't even be taking the time to write this. I'll tell you all about my exciting new job and exciting classes when I have time, like maybe in January.

Changes!

My nose is red, bumpy and itchy! It looks like your great-grandfather's nose! What IS this?! Even the internets don't know! (It's not PUPPP.)

Also, Dutch taught me something yesterday that I DID NOT KNOW. This was different than the usual Learning Stuff From Your Child kind of thing, which I've kind of gotten used to (you know, where the kid makes a poignant observation that illuminates some simple wisdom, blah blah blah) - she actually knew a fact that I did not know. It's begun! In a few short years, she will know much more than I do!

months go by

We are alive! Not much to report. Cook has a new job, still in government, but doing a different kind of work. I have the same job. Duchess ...
