I think I'm okay where I am.

I'm all tangled up over the bailout of the auto manufacturers. I have a grasp of economics not much stronger than Dutch's (or Barbie's) , and I have an instinctive hatred of CEOs who make more money in a day than I do in two years. Also, I hate cars. But I don't think it's a great idea to let an entire industry go down in flames without taking care of workers. All of which makes me totally confused.

However, this makes me utterly furious. I can't believe that these idiots have the temerity to come ask for my money without having considered giving up their salaries. Mulally has come around, under pressure, and offered to cut his salary to $1 for the year, after refusing to cut his own salary at ALL even as the company floundered.

What I don't get is how anybody on the planet could possibly think that what they do is worth $21 million. Actually, I don't see how anybody could think that what they do is worth more than $1 million a year. And that seems kind of inflated. I'm a natural socialist, I guess.

So from my socialist, non-economist perspective, I'm thinking we take that $34 billion and invest it in something else. Like worker retraining and jobs creation in sustainable transportation businesses. Universal healthcare would be really helpful for the economy. I'm just saying.
